Director of Technology

St. John Paul II Catholic High School

  1.       POSITION TITLE:      Director of Technology
  2.      GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Technology is a strategist in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the technology infrastructure and information technology at St. John Paul II Catholic High School.  Responsible for planning the overall objectives of the IT department in support of the mission and vision of the school. Communicates a strategy to achieve the mission of the department.   

  • Status: Grade 15, Exempt, 12 months; Usual work hours are 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.  Occasional work on weekends and evenings.
  • Reports to the Principal

III.     ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Mission, Strategy and Specific Skills
    • Understands and promotes the school’s mission and Philosophy of Education  
    • Assesses technology needs and develops technology plans in accordance with the school’s philosophy of education and budget
    • Provides strategic advice on trends and opportunities for integration and enhancements of technology to promote learning
    • Able to manage both high level planning and oversight/follow through of details
    • Prepares budget to implement school technology plan; selects and purchases technology equipment in cooperation with department chairpersons and assistant principal
    • Ability to create and manage the IT operating and capital budgets- in collaboration with school administrators
    • Serves as school-wide technology representative on the Academic Council
    • High level of organization and interpersonal skills – ability to communicate with construction planning team, school administrators, and teachers
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Technical Support
    • Administrator of school’s Google Classroom platform
    • Plans/design and maintenance of high school “intranet” and with content management.
    • Provides troubleshooting information and technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students for all technology equipment) and software supported by the school
    • Maintains records of licensing
    • Controls user access and security
    • Establishes and maintains server functioning
    • Monitors the phones systems, internet, servers, and security programming
    • Responsible for planning and maintaining school’s security cameras and equipment
    • Troubleshooting and technology support for sound technology in the school, including PA and other sound equipment
    • Provides leadership and expertise for teachers to support their classroom needs and their ability to utilize a variety of resources
  • Ongoing Operations
    • Provides system training for new teachers/staff or teachers/staff moving into new roles requiring utilization of new hardware/software
    • Ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information, hardware, software and related assets by applying safeguards to minimize vulnerabilities and negate potential threats
    • Develops, tests, and documents a disaster recovery plan for critical database applications
    • Provides plan to use digital media in the classroom to accommodate learning styles and assist students with disabilities
    • Evaluates the educational needs of teachers and students
    • Provides leadership and development of student help desk
    • Works with students to provide educational and technological experiences that support the mission and assist the school
    • Keeps up to date inventory of equipment and documentation of warranties, owner’s manuals and paperwork related to equipment, technologies and software
    • Organizes IT rooms to keep clear, clean and orderly
    • Supports library and media specialists
    • Able to manage the schools E-rate application

 

  1.      REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

 

  • Practicing Catholic who is joyfully faithful to the church’s tradition and teaching
  • Thinks, plans and makes decisions with prudential judgement and right reason
  • Bachelor’s Degree with continued education required
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in Technology Strategy, Information Management, or closely related field
  • Familiar with E-Rate
  • Meets Ministry Formation Certification as required by Diocese of Phoenix
  • Organized, creative and able to show initiative
  • Possesses leadership skills; efficient with time management; strong communication skills
  • Ability and experience with handling conflict and solving problems
  • Good physical condition- able to lift boxes, equipment, walk long distances, and connect/relocate equipment
  • Able to learn platform for school records, data and information; provides help to teachers and school staff members
  • Excellent planning skills
