Job Description 

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Assistant Principal is part of the administrative team, working collaboratively with the Principal and with the Director to develop within the school a strong Catholic identity. The Assistant Principal assists the Principal and the Director in the administration of the school, has a complete understanding of the school philosophy and is committed to supporting and implementing the vision of the school.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education 
  2. Embraces and models the Catholic philosophy of education 
  3. Promotes and lives gospel values and Catholic moral teaching 
  4. Upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church 
  5. Provides opportunities for faith development of students in the classroom to prepare them for life in today’s Church and society 
  6. Serves as Acting Principal in the absence of the principal/director
  7. Interacts and keeps communication with parents as necessary

 

Duties may vary from school to school. They may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  1. Assists in planning of agenda for faculty meetings, special school events and local school in-services 
  2. Coordinates selection and purchase of textbooks/magazines and software in conjunction with curriculum goals and objectives 
  3. Supervises the school discipline program 
  4. Monitors the implementation and follow-up of the recommendations from NCA/WCEA visit 
  5. Develops timeline and monitors curriculum in-depth studies and articulation across grade levels and subject areas 
  6. Assists with interviewing, observation and evaluation of teachers
  7. In conjunction with Resources Teacher, monitors government program applications, monies and services with public school district 
  8. Facilitates annual revision of Parent/Student handbook and Faculty handbook. 
  9. Coordinates scheduling and the preparation of schedules in cooperation with teaching staff. 
  10. Maintains cooperative relations with all in the school community 
  11. Promotes respectful and positive school relationships 
  12. Maintains awareness of his/her role as a Catholic school administrator and its impact on the community 
  13. Provides for regular communication and collaboration with teachers 
  14. Cooperates with and helps promote various curricular and co-curricular programs within the school 
  15. Attends and actively participates in school activities and functions 
  16. Continues professional development; attends assistant principal meetings; maintains development through reading, coursework, conference attendance, committee work, etc.
  17. Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities 
  18. Participates in professional activities and joins appropriate professional organizations 
  19. Attends diocesan sponsored in services 
  20. Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services 
  21. Actively participates in the process of continuous school improvement 
  22. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Must be practicing Catholic (Bona-Fide Occupational Qualifications - BOFQ) and be willing to sign a Profession of Faith 
  2. Must be bilingual
  3. Must have at least two years of classroom teaching experience. 
  4. Must meet Ministry Formation Certification as required by Diocesan policy 
  5. Must be creative and show initiative 
  6. Must have good organization, time management, problem solving and judgment skills; have an ability to observe and actively listen in assessing personnel and program needs, good communication skills with both children and adults 
  7. Must have positive attitude in crisis situations 
  8. Must have ability to work cooperatively with others as well as ability to delegate 
  9. Must have knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology 
  10. Must have received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct 
  11. Must have FBI Fingerprint clearance completed
