Purpose and Scope:

 

Under the general supervision of the teacher/director, the teacher assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision and instruction of students. The teacher assistant is responsible to help provide a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. 

 

Teacher's Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:

 

*Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student

*Assist in the educational development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teachers

*Participate in lesson practice and delivery of our adopted Curriculum

*Prepare materials for lessons, demonstrations, and bulletin boards.

*Operate equipment including computers, printers, photocopiers, and laminators.

*Ensure that students have all materials necessary for class activities.

Work with students individually or in small groups for extension or remediation.

*Provide extra help as needed to students with physical, mental, or linguistic limitations. *Support students with assistive devices and supportive technologies when needed. *Coordinate with classroom teachers to determine daily tasks.

*Adhere to accommodations in students’ SSPs and 504 plans.

*Lead activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development.

*Active supervision of students in various settings including classrooms, playgrounds, and     field trips.

*Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campuswide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom *Enforce school rules and policies as well as assigned teacher’s protocols and procedures. *Participate in parent-teacher conferences as requested by teachers Attend staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions

*Communicates appropriately with parents and staff and refers all parent questions and concerns pertaining to students to the teacher.

*Treats confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.

*May be asked to assume the duties of the teacher in the absence of the teacher.

*Must be punctual and on time for work.

*Performs other related duties as assigned, demonstrates ability to be flexible, and carries out duties.

 

Teacher’s Assistant Requirements and Qualifications:

 

*High school diploma or GED required Associate’s degree in education or related field preferred

*Certification in child first aid and CPR At least one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare setting

*Exemplary written and spoken communication skills

*Strong collaboration skills; able to work well with a team

*Effective multitasker; can prioritize tasks based on importance and deadlines

*Must complete Safe Environment training, pass background check before starting employment

*Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior

*Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

*Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
